Intercultural Awareness Workshop

Intercultural competence is about becoming more aware and understanding of cultural differences and similarities.

This workshop will use experiential exercises to:

  1. Increase your cultural and personal self awareness through reflecting on your experiences;
  2. Increase your awareness of others within your own cultural and personal contexts;
  3. Manage your emotions in the face of ambiguity, change, and challenging circumstances & people;
  4. Learn to bridge cultural gaps by shifting frames and adapting your behavior to other cultural contexts.

Trisha Dowling is a veterinarian and professor of veterinary clinical pharmacology at the Western College of Veterinary. She has been teaching veterinary pharmacology at the Western College of Veterinary Medicine since 1993, and has received many teaching awards including the Norden Distinguished Professor, the USSU Teaching Excellence award, the UofS Provost’s Teaching Award and the 2019 UofS Master Teacher award.

She also has taught a Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction course in the vet school curriculum and has been a facilitator for GPS 984 Thinking Critically for the last eight years.
